Nintendo bought the company that brought Hogwarts Legacy to Switch

The Japanese company made official the purchase of Shiver Entertainent, responsible for the ports of Mortal Kombat 1 and Hogwarts Legacy for Switch

Through a official statement, Nintendo announced the purchase of Shiver Entertainmenta Embracer Group. This purchase is of vital importance for the Japanese developer, as this acquisition will allow them to better work on ports of large titles at the same time. new version of the Switch.

Shiver Entertainent had previously worked for Nintendo apart from its collaborations on Switch. They were responsible for porting Triple A games like Mortal Kombat 1 and Hogwarts Legacy to the console. This studio would have also ported games like Scribblenauts to the various portable consoles that Nintendo has had in the past.

“With the arrival of Shiver's experienced and successful development team, Nintendo aims to secure high-level resources to port and develop titles of our software.” The company says in the statement.

“In the future, even after it becomes part of the Nintendo group, Shiver's focus will remain the same, continuing with port assignments and software development for multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch.” The company continues.

“The acquisition will be completed depending on the fulfillment of all the usual purchase closing conditions for these cases.” And the expense “will only have a minor effect on the company's financial outlook for the year.” They ended in the statement.

The curious thing is that in 2022, at the height of the industrial growth of Sony and Microsoft buying small development companies, the Japanese developer and distributor had stated that it was not planning to buy studios, as they wanted to invest all their capital in the companies they already owned.

Nintendo had not bought any large studio since 2021 with the acquisition of Next Level Games, developers in charge of Luigi's Mansion 3.
