Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is finally coming to Switch in 2025

The long-awaited sequel announced in 2017 finally gave new signs of life with the return of Samus Aran next year

After 7 years of much silence, Nintendo finally revealed a new, much more detailed trailer with gameplay and release window for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond with the epic return of Samus Aran sometime in 2025 to Nintendo Switch.

“The galaxy's greatest bounty hunter, Samus Aran, will embark on a new mission,” Nintendo said in a press release. “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a new entry in the Metroid Prime series, is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025.”

In case you don't remember, Nintendo first introduced the game back in 2017 during its E3 presentation. All that was revealed was a 43-second animation showing outer space and a '4' symbol appearing, along with a message saying "Metroid Prime 4 now in development for Nintendo Switch."

The long delay of this title is due to the fact that in 2019, Nintendo chose to restart its development. The project moved from an anonymous studio, supposedly Bandai Namco, to the Prime series' original developer, Retro Studios.

Retro Studios is a subsidiary developer of Nintendo founded in 1998 and based in Austin, Texas. The studio began with four projects for Nintendo GameCube that were not very successful until Shigeru Miyamoto himself suggested that the studio be in charge of developing a new Metroid.

After that, the four games in development were canceled to focus on Metroid Prime, which was released for GameCube in 2002, and since then he has been in charge of developing all the games in the Metroid Prime saga.
