Being developed since 2018, the game would have artistic inspirations based on Dota 2, Bioshock Infinite, Valotant and more

Images of Deadlock, a hero shooter video game apparently developed by Valve since 2018, have recently been leaked. This information was released through Tyler McVicker, a renowned leaker of various projects from the creators of Dota 2 and Counter Strike 2 before their official announcement.

Footage supposedly from a private playtest of the game appears to show 6v6 gameplay, with abilities similar to Overwatch, Paladins, Marvel Rivals, or other similar competitive hero shooters.

According to McVicker, the game has been in development since 2018, features tower defense mechanics and has a fantasy setting mixed with steampunk.

“Wizards, strange creatures and robots,” he wrote. “Fast travel using floating rails, similar to Bioshock Infinite,” she wrote. “Basically, a fast-paced, interesting ADHD game. Combination of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite, Orcs Must Die.”

“The design of the heroes are practically inspired by the Dota universe,” McVicker said. “The main map refers to the modern European steampunk city (a bit like Half-Life). “Initially, the game had sci-fi elements inspired by Half-Life and Portal, but after a poor response, the development team decided to focus on fantasy.”

We could learn more about Deadlock during Summer Game Fest

Although the game has been in development since 2018, Valve has had six solid years to polish its hero shooter, taking advantage of the turbulence that Overwatch 2 has gone through after the resounding success of its first installment in 2016, considered the standard of the genre.

This year Marvel Rivals was presented, another title of the same genre that enjoys the Marvel comics license, which will undoubtedly boost its popularity thanks to the large number of iconic characters it has.

Valve could have the opportunity to introduce Deadlock during the era of Game Summer Fest in June of this year. Considering Steam's recent announcement as a partner of the June 8 event, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect an official reveal of the game during the event.

Likewise, Valve has not yet confirmed this information at the time of publication. For this reason, we recommend taking both the name and the rest of the information given in this article with caution.
