HBO's The Last of Us could require more seasons

The showrunners in charge stated that adapting the script of the second game could require up to 2 more seasons

The producers and showrunners of the series, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, stated through an article in Deadline That, the 7 chapters of the second season of The Last of Us may not be enough to adapt the entire second game, requiring up to a third and perhaps a fourth season to finish the series.

“The story we're telling is so much bigger than the story of the first season, there's just so much more going on. It's a lot harder to produce, but to be honest, we want each episode to feel like its own success,” Craig Mazin stated in the article.

“The story material we got from part 2 of the game is a lot more than the story material that was in the first game, so part of what we had to do from the beginning was figure out how to tell that story through “Long a season.”

“When you do that, you look for plot breaking points that are natural, and as we planned to present it, the natural breaking point for this second season seemed to be after seven episodes.” Mazin concluded.

Is it very difficult to adapt The Last of us Part 2?

Adapting The Last of Us Part 2 is a more complex challenge than adapting Naughty Dog's first installment. Since this game presents new characters, several locations and jumps in time within the script that support a more complex narrative that the first game did not have.

Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin also stated that one of the chapters will be much longer than the others. But we can expect a totally shocking second season.

The new season will arrive in 2025 and fans are excited by the hype that has been generated every time this HBO Max adaptation is talked about.
