BioWare reveals the first trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard

The studio will release more details of the gameplay of its long-awaited RPG this June 11

After revealing the new name of its long-awaited RPG this week, BioWare has revealed the first cinematic trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard during the Xbox Games Showcase. In it, we get a lot of story details, new and returning characters, and even a release window.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard expands on the Dragon Age stories, worlds, and characters from previous games, where players will enter a vibrant land of rugged wilderness, treacherous mazes, and glowing cities, filled with conflict and secret magic. The new hero created by the player, along with his companions, will challenge and face a pair of corrupt ancient gods who have broken free from centuries of darkness and are hell-bent on destroying the world.

As in previous installments, the player will meet characters who will accompany him during his adventure. In The Veilguard, there will be a total of seven companions, each with their own lives and deep stories, and each of them will bring their own unique experience and skills to the fight.

Along with the reveal trailer, BioWare also moved up the release window as fall 2024, and they will reveal more details about its gameplay this Tuesday, June 11.

Why was the name changed to Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

General Manager of BioWare Studios and Executive Producer for Dragon Age, Gar McKay stated via BioWare blog some news about the game, such as why they made the decision to change the name and other details of the game. As a recap, as the game progressed and its characters became more integral to the experience, BioWare wanted to change the game's name to better reflect its overall direction.

“Each of the seven unique characters who will be your companions will have deep and interesting storylines where your decisions will impact your relationships with them – as well as their lives,” McKay said in the blog. “You will join this team of unforgettable heroes as you face a terrifying new threat unleashed on the world. Naturally, the Dread Wolf is still an important part of this story, but you and your companions – not your enemies – are the heart of this new experience.”

“So, we changed the name to understand what this game is about, since the original title did not reflect the strong connection with our new heroes, their stories and how you will need to keep them together to save all of Thedas. “We are proud to present to you Dragon Age: The Veilguard,” he concluded.
