Amazon partners with Maverick Games for new open-world driving game

The studio is made up of former Forza Horizon developers and the game will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC

Amazon Games has revealed a publishing deal with Maverick Games for an upcoming narrative-driven open-world driving game, coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

In 2022, the principals behind the acclaimed open-world racing game Forza Horizon founded Maverick Games. Among them is studio head and creative director Mike Brow, who previously served as creative director of the Forza franchise. The collaboration with UK-based Maverick Games comes at a time when Amazon Games is expanding its presence in Europe and has just announced the opening of a new development studio in Bucharest.

This publishing deal joins Amazon Games' growing portfolio, which includes open-world role-playing games New World and Lost Ark, and upcoming titles such as Throne and Liberty and the next major installment in the Tomb Raider series, among others.

“We founded Maverick Games with a clear vision: to build a developer-focused studio that fostered an environment of creativity and risk-taking,” said Mike Brown In an interview.

“This approach allows our team to produce the most exceptional work of their careers. And ultimately, that means we're creating a game our players will fall in love with. Without giving too much away, I will share that the team here is excited about our game and we can't wait to share it with the world.”

Amazon bets on great talent in this racing game

Maverick Games is full of developers who have been part of other great driving-related titles. For example, a game that will have a narrative will be written by Jamie Brittian, co-creator of the British television show Skins.

Other developers include executive producer Tom Butcher (Forza Horizon Series, F1 All-Stars), CTO Matt Craven (Forza Horizon, GRID, DIRT), chief content officer Gareth Harwood (Forza Horizon, Fable reboot), director of audio Fraser Strachan (Forza Horizon), art director Ben Penrose (Forza Horizon, Fable reboot) and visual design director Elly Marshall (Forza Horizon 3, Just Cause 3, DIRT).

The team working on Maverick currently consists of 62 developers and the studio plans to hire more as development continues.
