Venezuela and Colombia strengthen cooperation ties

The Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, held a meeting on Tuesday with the Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, Milton Rengifo, with the objective of reviewing the binational cooperation map, the current trade agreements between both nations, as well as strengthening relations. of brotherhood.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Foreign Trade, where the authorities followed up on the common cooperation agenda, in addition to reviewing progress in strategic areas such as trade and tourism, under the well-being and development of both towns, reports information from the Vice Presidency.

During the meeting, the Executive Vice President and the New Granada ambassador evaluated the joint plans they have for the future, based on a relationship of respect for the self-determination of peoples, by promoting and promoting a pluripolar and multicentric world.

This bilateral dialogue occurs in a context of renewed diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Colombia, after the election of President Gustavo Petro. During the resumption of these ties, several agreements are promoted by both governments to bring mutual improvements in strategic areas such as trade, culture, migration and border security.

Among the notable agreements is the creation of the Colombia-Venezuela Neighborhood and Integration Commission, signed in Brasilia on May 30, 2023, an important initiative to further unify the closeness between both peoples. Likewise, the partial scope agreement of a commercial nature, number 28, was reactivated, originally adopted in November 2011 and modified on February 16, 2023 by the presidents of both countries.

Another important step was to resume conversations related to the reciprocal investment protection agreement, established on February 3 of the same year, which seeks to offer security, transparency and guarantees to investors from both countries.

Likewise, the restitution of the pact on international transport of cargo and passengers by road, signed in August 2014 and ratified in May 2023, was approved and during the year 2024, the opening of four new consulates is planned that will strengthen cooperation between the East Colombian and western Venezuela.
