Venezuela stands in solidarity with the Prime Minister of Slovakia

President Maduro rejected the act of intolerance and its execution through criminal means

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, on behalf of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, expressed solidarity with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico after suffering an attack against him, "we wish his speedy recovery and we condemn this vile act," he expressed in his social media accounts.

“There should be no room in the world for intolerance and criminal methods that try to attack and impact against the will of free peoples in their desire to build a new world,” said President Maduro.

This Wednesday Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia, was shot four times while leaving a building in the city of Handlová, after which he was immediately treated. International media report that the 71-year-old alleged perpetrator was arrested at the scene.

Consternation in Europe after the attack

The president of Slovakia, Zuzana Caputova, has called the attack “brutal and ruthless.” She also appeared “surprised” by what happened. “I wish Robert Fico much strength at this critical time and a speedy recovery from this attack,” she said.

The vice president of the Slovak Parliament, Lubos Blaha, confirmed the incident during a plenary session that has been paused until further notice due to the seriousness of these events.

The news has gone around the world and the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, has also condemned the attack on his X account. “(I am) horrified and outraged by the attack against the Slovak Prime Minister,” he said, adding that “Spain supports Robert Fico, his family and the Slovak people in this very difficult time.”
