Venezuela reaffirms its attachment to the One China principle

The Government of President Maduro rejects the secessionist position of the líder of the Democratic Progressive Party, assuming the role of new head of the Taiwan region

Venezuela spoke out this Monday to reiterate its adherence to the One China policy.

The Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, published a statement on his account on the social network this day the reins of the Chinese region of Taiwan.

“Venezuela rejects the secessionist position of the líder of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Mr. Lai Ching-te, issued in his speech on May 20, 2024, upon assuming the role again líder of the Taiwan region, and reaffirms its unrestricted attachment to the principle of “One China”, which recognizes the Government of the People's Republic of China as the true and only legitimate representative of the Chinese people,” says Gil's publication.

In the text, the Maduro Government indicates that it recognizes the Government of the People's Republic of China as the true and only legitimate representative of the Chinese people and that the island of Taiwan is an inalienable part of its historical territory.

Likewise, it condemns any threat from hegemonic imperialism and categorically rejects any intervention by a country under any pretext.

Lai Ching-te, who took office as president of Taiwan this Monday, May 20, replacing Tsai Ing-wen (2016-2024), in his speech, urged China to stop its political and military “intimidation” of this territory whose sovereignty Beijing claims.
