The Venezuelan delegation is made up of officials from the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (Ivic)

Venezuela participates in the 46th Consultative Meeting of the Antarctic Treaty and in the meeting of the 26th Committee for the Protection of the Environment, which are taking place in India.

According to a press release from the Foreign Ministry, the participation of the Venezuelan delegation is due to an invitation from the Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Republic of India.

Both forums are being held from May 20 to 30 at the Lulu Bolgatty International Convention Center in Kochi, Kerala state.

That is why the Venezuelan ambassador to India, Capaya Rodríguez González, traveled to that city in the south of the country to accompany the Venezuelan delegation, made up of senior officials from the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC), Alberto Quintero and Juan Andrés Alfonso, and the researcher Helga Handt Delgado.

In this sense, Ambassador Capaya Rodríguez expressed that Venezuela's participation reaffirms the Bolivian Government's priority interest in assuming a leadership role in environmental issues.

The Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting and the Committee for Environmental Protection are annual high-level global meetings held in accordance with the provisions of the Antarctic Treaty, a multilateral agreement signed in 1959.

During these meetings, the member countries of the Treaty discuss issues related to international collaboration in scientific research, as well as the governance and protection of Antarctica and the sustainable management of its resources.
