Venezuela is appointed member of the indigenous fund board of the region

Venezuela's reception of delegations participating in the XVII Ordinary General Assembly of the Fund for the Development of the Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean stands out

During the XVII Ordinary General Assembly of the Fund for the Development of the Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (Filac), Venezuela was designated a Government Member of the Board of Directors of the organization.

This was announced by the Indigenous Ministry, through its account on the social network

According to the information, a new Board of Directors was elected for the period 2024-2026, whose Executive Committee was made up of Brazil in the Presidency; Nicaragua in the first Vice Presidency and Spain in the second Vice Presidency.

In order to issue relevant recommendations for the future of the organization in the 2024-2026 biennium, parallel consultations were carried out between the Indigenous Peoples and the Government, to establish agreements on strategic issues from the perspective of the Indigenous Peoples.

The objective is to establish a framework of commitments to strengthen the capacity of States in compliance with the strategic guidelines and the Ibero-American Action Plan for the Implementation of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The first vice president of FILAC, Mirna Cunningham, thanked the reception that Venezuela offered to the delegations present at the XVII Ordinary General Assembly of FILAC.

In this sense, it is worth noting that this is the first time that the country hosts an Ordinary General Assembly of the Fund for the Development of the Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (Filac).

More than 60 indigenous and government delegations from Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Uruguay and Venezuela, participated in the XVII Assembly Filac Ordinary General

For two days they held preparatory meetings that established the guidelines for the discussions in the General Assembly.
