Venezuela condemns coup attempt in Congo

President Nicolás Maduro expressed his support for democracy and the full reestablishment of the rule of law in the African nation

Through an official statement, Venezuela expressed its condemnation of coup attempt perpetrated early this Sunday against the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The text, published on the official account of the social network X of Foreign Minister Yván Gil, highlights that President Nicolás Maduro expressed his support for democracy and the full reestablishment of the rule of law in the african nation.

The full text of the statement is reproduced below:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly condemns the attempted coup d'état perpetrated in the early hours of May 19, 2024, against the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, in accordance with the principles of International Law and in the exercise of Bolivarian Diplomacy of peace, rejects any change of power through violent and unconstitutional means, which threatens the sovereignty and self-determination of the Peoples, trying to violate the political and social stability of that African nation.

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, expresses his support for democracy and the full reestablishment of the rule of law in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and extends his solidarity to the constitutional Government of President Félix Tshisekedi, as well as to the democratically elected authorities.
