The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, announced this Monday that the Colombian Prosecutor's Office was requested to collaborate to investigate the complaint made by a paramilitary group, contacted by the Venezuelan extreme right to attack the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro. .

He indicated that they made a written request to the Attorney General of New Granada, Luz Adriana Camargo, to allow the participation of the Public Ministry (MP) in the investigation that may be carried out in the neighboring country and to interview the alleged witnesses.

In addition, he explained that they have had contacts in Colombia who have provided related information to specify in the next few hours the names of the people from the extreme right who contacted them.

“I hope that the Attorney General's Office of Colombia allows our officials to move to Colombia to jointly develop, within the framework of International Criminal Cooperation, the clarification of this disastrous fact that has the unanimous repudiation of all of Venezuela,” he said.

The prosecutor added that “a link” has already reported that two months ago in the Colombian Guajira, the paramilitary group Autodefensas de la Sierra was contacted, with a first emissary who identified himself as a leader of the Venezuelan opposition.

He added that later three meetings were held in a restaurant in Maicao and that “three people always attended, two white and a dark-haired man, without a beard and with an average height of 1.75.”

The source, the prosecutor stressed, contributed that all those who went to the meeting identified themselves as sympathizers of the extreme opposition and asked the group to attack President Maduro in some street act or against the electrical infrastructure of Zulia, especially the last days of the campaign, and leave a large part of the country without service.

Likewise, they asked them to infiltrate the marches to cause violence, since they are not going to recognize the results of the July 28 election, and will carry out violent actions.

On the other hand, they showed them maps, pointing out the electrical infrastructure they wanted to attack and the Miraflores Palace; and they offered them political asylum when they took power, although no payment amounts were concentrated.

The attorney general recalled that in recent months they have revealed eight plans to attack the president.

He commented that this new complaint was first reported by the Colombian media, and in that sense he rejected the misrepresentations.

On July 4, the paramilitary group Autodefensas de la Sierra denounced that the Venezuelan extreme right contacted its units in La Guajira.
