The Ambassador of Venezuela, Gladys Gutiérrez Alvarado, presented to the Secretary General of UN Tourism, Zurab Pololikashvili, the credentials that accredit her as Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the United Nations Specialized Agency.

Information from the Venezuelan Embassy in Spain states that during a meeting with Secretary General Pololikashvili, the Permanent Representative of Venezuela confirmed Venezuela's interest in strengthening the joint work it has been developing with UN Tourism.

In this way, Venezuela reaffirms its multilateral tradition and strengthens its presence in the United Nations System, incorporating its Venezuelan diplomatic mission in Spain in the work of representing and defending national interests in tourism, being the first time that it has been accredited. to an Ambassador to that UN Agency.

Part of the work agenda proposed by the Venezuelan Permanent Representation is to promote Venezuelan tourism potential and the implementation of measures in favor of sustainable and inclusive tourism, which go hand in hand with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 2030.

Venezuela has been experiencing important advances in terms of attracting inbound tourism. In fact, during 2023, the highest rate for this concept was recorded, compared to the last decade. A post-pandemic growth that, according to the projections of the Venezuelan tourism authorities, will be consolidated in 2024, when an increase of close to 25% is expected, compared to the previous year.

Venezuelan tourism continues to emerge as a relevant economic activity, capable of promoting the earning of foreign currency, generating development, promoting the creation of specialized jobs and, at the same time, mitigating the harmful effects of the Unilateral Coercive Measures imposed - for almost 10 years -, by the United States government against the Venezuelan economy.
