According to a press release from the Ministry of Science and TechnologyDuring a meeting held at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) in Vienna, the diplomats discussed the importance of the Technical Cooperation Program that the IAEA has implemented in Venezuela.

This program, promoted by the National Government through the Sectoral Vice Presidency of Science, Technology, Education and Health, focuses on projects in various areas, especially in the health sector, including cancer prevention and treatment, radiation safety, disposal of disused radioactive sources, environment and food.

At the meeting, they also highlighted the relevance of training Venezuelan technicians and specialists in the efficient use of nuclear technology to strengthen capabilities in the sector.

The IAEA Director General also stressed the need to mobilize available resources through regional development banks and other financial entities to benefit countries like Venezuela, demonstrating his personal commitment to cooperation in strategic areas.

He also mentioned that important conferences of the current year, such as the General Conference and the Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications, require the attendance of high-level authorities from Member Countries.

For his part, Salerno Caldera reported that in September 2024, Venezuela will join the IAEA Board of Governors for the period 2024-2026. In that sense, he indicated that this meeting is a crucial space to debate relevant issues related to the Agency.

Venezuela and the IAEA have established a strong alliance to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Through scientific and technological collaboration agreements, training sessions, inspections and training have been carried out in various areas.

This cooperation strengthens national capabilities and contributes to the safe and beneficial development of nuclear technology.
