Is there a history of the current?

When referring to history, we usually think of the past. For one current, it is the science that has as its source the document and every vestige of the action of men in space and time. However, is it possible to chronicle the achievements of men in every temporal-earthly record or should one venture into limited expressions, but that maintain a connection with the all-universal?

The answer is obvious. The study of history is unique and indivisible, without forgetting that it is possible to venture into specific manifestations, such as what is known as national. The problem to face then is to ask: is history a simple science of the past or of the past-present-future?

And this is why 50 years ago we started Current History, a synthesis of a past that is expressed in the present-future. A project that starts from Marc Bloch, Introduction to History and Lucien Febvre, Combat for History, for whom this craft and its product is not intended for simple erudition.

History must go to the bottom of the actions of men, to establish their shortcomings and fight to overcome a reality plagued by difficulties. Two tendencies are then presented, the one that seeks to keep everything the same or the one that drives the fight proposed by Febvre to act for the construction of a world suitable for life in creation, justice and freedom.

Hence Bloch's commitment: “It will always seem to us that a science is somewhat incomplete if it does not sooner or later help us to live better.” That is why we established that “history that does not touch on the current is incomplete, limited and of little social use.” It is current or it is not!

The documentary difficulty for this study is corrected by the testimony-participation of the actors of what they experienced. A collective action that imposes technical-methodological requirements that we established in published works. From these guidelines one could study, for example, the complex and difficult situation of Venezuela 28J-2024.

It is necessary to start from theses taken to two main scenarios: the one that maintains the continuation of the established order and the one that supports those who announce a triumph that would be taken away by a fraud that would lead them to violent street protests.

Sancho, how long will you pay homage to the thesis of “violence as the midwife of history”?
