It will take place from June 13 to 16 in La Asunción and Juan Griego with the participation of more than 25 exhibitors

From June 13 to 16, the nineteenth (19) edition of the Venezuela International Book Fair (Filven) will take place in the state of Nueva Esparta, with the participation of more than 25 exhibitors including publishers, booksellers and bookstores.

On this occasion, Filven will be present in two municipalities of the island entity such as Arismendi (La Asunción) and Marcano (Juan Griego). With the motto "Reading Reunions Us", Filven will serve as a reunion between poets, writers and readers.

This was reported at a press conference by Eliana Martínez, operational director of the Culture Cabinet of the Nueva Esparta state, who was accompanied by Jesús Velásquez, specialist from the Book and Reading Platform; Yisel Brito, director of Culture of the Arismendi municipality and Alcira Silva, director of Culture of the Marcano municipality.

“In Juan Griego the activities will take place in the Francisco Larez Granado Cultural Complex and in La Asunción we will have two spaces such as the Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi park and the Monseñor Nicolás Eugenio Navarro house of culture. In addition to the exhibition and presentation of books, we will have a space with artisans from Nuevas Esparta who will be participating in this fair, as well as a gastronomic fair with the Margariteño chili as the protagonist and a wide variety of cultural activities for everyone's enjoyment. the attendees,” Martínez said.


For this edition, the living cultural heritage of the Nueva Esparta state, José Elías “Chelías” Villarroel and Pedro “Perucho” Aguirre, are honored; as well as the writer and poet Eva Cristina Franco. At the national level, the tribute is directed to the writers, Carmen Delia Bencomo, Domingo Alberto Rangel and Armando Carías. And on the international level, the Palestinian writers Heba Abu Nada and Adanía Shibli.

In addition, it is dedicated to the National Library, for its 190 years, and to the Vadell Hermanos Editores Publishing House for its fiftieth anniversary.


The event promises a vast cultural program, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and sometimes will last until 7 pm. More than 25 books will be presented in paper format and five digital ones. In addition, there will be eight poetry recitals and 30 musical presentations. There will also be the children's pavilion called “Under the shadow of Guayacán” with workshops, oral narration, dramatized readings, among other activities.
