Russia assumes the presidency of the UN Security Council

The Slavic nation will carry as its flag the drive for a new, more just world order.

During July, Russia presides over the UN Security Council and the main topics of discussion will be: a solution for the Middle East, the new global 'Security Equation' and UN cooperation with regional organizations: CSTO, CIS and SCO . This has to do with the call for 16/07, in which Russia will raise the issue of a 'Fairer New World Order'.

The Security Council is a permanent structure of the United Nations Organization, which has the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security. Every month, the presidency of the Security Council is transferred from one country to another. South Korea took over the presidency in June.

Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasili Nebenzia, anticipated that Russia had 3 key events to raise during its Security Council presidency.

Russia also plans to address the attack with American ATACMS missiles by the Ukrainian army against the Sevastopol beach.

“There is a great demand in the international community for a strategic discussion on the future of the World Order, beyond the horizon of the current crisis. After all, the question will arise as to what the contours of a new system will be and what international relations should be like,” Nebenzia said.

The open debate format in the Security Council allows not only its 15 members to participate, but also other countries in the UN.

During the last presidency of Russia (in April 2023), despite the fact that Moscow complied with all the formalities - they say in the Kremlin - the US did not issue visas to the Russian journalists who would accompany Lavrov.
