President Luis Arce denounces coup d'état against him

Arce called on social organizations to take part in this situation, “in favor of democracy”

The president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Luis Arce, together with his Ministerial Cabinet, denounced a coup attempt, after the unusual movement of military troops in Murillo Square in the city of La Paz; and he called on the people to organize and defend democracy.

“The Bolivian people are summoned today, we need the Bolivian people to organize and mobilize against the coup d'état and in favor of democracy. We cannot allow, once again, coup attempts to take Bolivian lives,” he denounced in a presidential message, he reported. ABI

The President urged to defend democracy and invited social organizations to show the path of democracy to the Bolivian people.

“Here we are firm in Casa Grande, with the entire Cabinet, with our social organizations,” he asserted.

President Luis Arce is inside the headquarters of the Executive Branch in La Paz. “Withdraw all those forces you have out there,” Arce ordered Zúñiga surrounded by other authorities and in the presence of the uniformed men, who accompanied Arce, Unitel.bo reports.

Risk of the democratic system in Bolivia

The Ombudsman's Office denounced to the international community, and Human Rights bodies, the risk to the democratic system in Bolivia, after the irregular movement of the Army in Murillo Square in the city of La Paz, according to the Bolivian Information Agency.

“In the last few minutes, unusual military movements have been registered in the vicinity of Plaza Murillo and the vicinity of the Casa Grande del Pueblo, where the President of the State, Luis Arce Catacora, is located, who, through his social networks, has denounced 'irregular mobilizations of some units of the Bolivian Army'. Democracy must be respected (sic)”, he published on his social networks.

The defense institution warned of the risk of democracy in Bolivia and called on all social actors to protect, above all interests, the rule of law, constitutionality and preserve the national democratic system.

“As a national institution for the defense of human rights, we will remain attentive to the development of events and will make every effort to preserve the democratic system in the country,” the publication states.
