President of France announces dissolution of Parliament

The president called early legislative elections on June 30 and July 7 after his defeat in the European elections

This Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the dissolution of Parliament and called for early legislative elections, EFE reported.

The first round of elections to the National Assembly will be held on June 30 and the second on July 7, Macron said in a speech on national television.

Macron pointed out the preliminary results of the elections to the European Parliament, “they do not represent a good result for the parties that defend Europe,” reported Sputnik.

The president made the decision to call legislative elections early, after the right defeated his centrist political alliance in the European Union (EU) polls.

According to Xinhua, the French far-right National Rally party received 32% of the votes in the election for the European Parliament in France, while President Macron's liberal Renaissance party received 15,4%, AVN reported.
