Palestine will be recognized as a State by Spain, Norway and Ireland

The recognition of Palestine will take place starting next May 28

On May 28, the government of Spain will recognize Palestine as a State, announced the president of that nation, Pedro Sánchez.

Sánchez, according to Telesur, argued that more than 130 countries around the world already recognize Palestine as a State, urging the West and, in particular, the European Union, to join this trend. Currently, only eight EU countries recognize the Palestinian state.

In this sense, the Irish Prime Minister, Simon Harris, announced that, by that same date, his country will also recognize Palestine as a State.

The territorial limits established by Spain and Ireland for the recognition of Palestine cover the borders before the 1967 war, in accordance with resolutions 242 and 338 of the United Nations Security Council, which urge Israel to return the occupied areas.

For his part, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed that Norway will join this decision by recognizing the existence of the Palestinian State as of May 28.

“There can be no peace in the Middle East without Israel and Palestine having their own state, it is the only real solution to the conflict,” said Støre.
