UN denounces possible crimes against humanity by Israel in Gaza

The UN published a report on six Israeli attacks in which bombs were used that caused civilian casualties and destruction of non-military objects

The United Nations Office for Human Rights denounced possible crimes against humanity committed by Israeli forces during bombings against Gaza.

The entity published a report this Wednesday after analyzing six Israeli attacks in Gaza that "caused numerous deaths and widespread destruction of civilian objects."

The attacks reviewed were carried out between October 9 and December 2, 2023 against residential buildings, refugee camps, an educational center and a market, leaving some 218 civilians dead, he reported. Telesur.

Furthermore, they indicated that in these attacks Israel used GBU-31, GBU-32 and GBU-39 bombs that caused a high number of civilian casualties, as well as extensive destruction of non-military objects.

“These attacks raise serious concerns under the laws of war and the principles of distinction, proportionality and precautions,” warned the Office of the United Nations Organization (UN).

In this regard, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, stated that the norm of minimizing harm against civilians in war actions "appears to have been consistently violated in Israel's bombing campaign."

According to the report, the bombs used by Israel in the aforementioned attacks can affect several floors of a concrete building and cause it to collapse.

“Given the dense population of the areas against which these explosives were directed, the use of them, with such widespread effects in large areas, is probably an indiscriminate attack,” which is prohibited by international regulations, the entity reiterated.

Last week, a commission of inquiry from United Nations had already concluded that “Israeli authorities are responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.”
