French left achieves a simple majority in legislative elections

The NFP would obtain between 172 and 215 of the 577 seats in the National Assembly (lower house), followed by the official alliance between 150 and 180 and the far-right National Group (RN) party and its allies.

The left-wing coalition New Popular Front (NFP) would win the legislative elections in France without an absolute majority, after a tight runoff with the alliance of President Emmanuel Macron and the extreme right fighting for second place, according to first projections.

The NFP would obtain between 172 and 215 of the 577 seats in the National Assembly (lower house), followed by the official alliance between 150 and 180 and the far-right National Group (RN) party and its allies, he reported. Telesur on their web portal.

Marine Le Pen's far-right is relegated to third position, with 115-152 seats, according to the four main polls. None of the three blocks achieves an absolute majority.

In relation to the second round of the legislative elections that took place this Sunday, it was reported that the estimated participation rate was 67.10% (a slight increase compared to the 66.70% registered in the first round last week and a record since the elections legislative elections of 1997).

The New Popular Front is ready to govern

El líder of the French radical left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, this Sunday demanded that the president, Emmanuel Macron, appoint a prime minister from the left alliance that, according to polls, won the legislative elections.

Mélenchon highlighted that citizens mobilized to stop the legislative advance of this extreme trend. He demanded that Macron recognize his defeat and entrust the formation of a government to the left-wing New Popular Front coalition, which is made up of leftists, socialists, social democrats and greens. The NFP is ready to govern, he asserted.

He stated that he will not negotiate with Macron and that there is no deadline to form a new Government. "We refuse to enter into negotiations with his party (Macron) to make agreements, especially after having fought his policy of social abuse," he told hundreds of followers who celebrated the victory in Paris.

He added that "the left saved the Republic once again" and that the NFP is the "only alternative built, coherent, supportive, with an organized program."

«Our victory will be analyzed everywhere, particularly by leftists around the world. In a few days many will try to act as if nothing had happened, but we won thanks to a political line capable of uniting the people," he said.

In the opinion of the international affairs analyst, Iñaki Gil de San Vicente, this triumph of the left reveals the inclination of the French electorate to avoid the rise of the extreme right, which they link to Nazism.

He assured that with this awareness, French voters gave a civic lesson to stop imperialism. He assured that the conflict in Ukraine and the deterioration of economic life in the European nation were also key to this.

Another expert, political analyst Cristian Rodríguez, assessed that the French left put the extreme right in its rightful place.

It was striking that Macron declared that he will not decide tonight the question of which political force he will call to form a Government and identified a group of scenarios about what could happen in the following hours, among them that the center party of the French president decides to ally. with the right or form an alliance with the left but demanding that the NFP distance itself from La Izquierda Insumisa.

He highlighted that the NFP responded firmly that they will remain united around their political program of transformations based on the great majorities and not the capitalist elite, with the conviction that together they can go very far.
