Israel attacks UN school in Palestine

The attack left 30 dead, including 14 children

The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, condemned Israel's attack against a school of the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), in the Nuseirat displaced persons camp.

In this sense, Guterres' spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, assured in statements to the press that UN facilities are inviolable, even during armed conflicts, and must be protected by all parties at all times.

Likewise, the spokesperson insisted on calls for the parties to respect and protect civilians, as well as guarantee their essential needs, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

He also reiterated the need for an urgent ceasefire and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages held in Gaza.

The Israeli attack, without prior warning to the displaced or UNRWA staff on the UN building, left more than 30 people dead, including 14 children, and dozens injured.

For his part, the commissioner general of the Palestinian Refugee Agency, Philippe Lazzarini, recalled that attacking or using UN buildings for military purposes is a flagrant disregard for international humanitarian law.

“United Nations personnel, facilities and operations must be protected at all times,” the official reiterated.

In the facilities there were six thousand people displaced as a result of Israel's attacks against the Palestinian people.
