Francis orders masses to be lowered to eight minutes

The Holy Father indicated that the homily should be brief, because afterwards people lose attention and fall asleep

Pope Francis urged priests in all Catholic churches around the world to reduce the duration of masses to eight minutes.

The Supreme Pontiff argued that “there are some priests who sometimes talk a lot and it is not understood what they are talking about,” and added that with the long duration “people fall asleep.”

In this sense, the holy father indicated that the homily should be brief, summarized in an image, a thought, a feeling.

“A homily should not last more than eight minutes because after that time attention is lost, people fall asleep and they are right,” he emphasized.

The Pope has insisted for about two years that homilies should be reduced to between eight and 10 minutes to achieve better attention from the faithful.
