Democratic congressman: the US is the financier of the genocide in Gaza

Rashida Tlaib expressed her rejection of sending billions of dollars in weapons to Israel

Democratic congresswoman, Rashida Tlaib, warned that the United States is today the main investor and financier of Israel's genocide in Gaza, reports Prensa Latina.

Tlaib, a member of the House of Representatives and the only Palestinian-American in Congress, participated in the People's Conference for Palestine that concludes this Sunday in Detroit, Michigan.

During her speech, the Michigan representative harshly criticized President Joe Biden and some of her colleagues on Capitol Hill, urging them to do more to stop the genocide in Gaza.

"Where is your red line, President Biden?" he told a cheering crowd the day before at Huntington Place, where the meeting is taking place.

Tlaib also expressed her rejection of sending billions of dollars in weapons to Israel.

In April, Congress approved a $95 billion foreign aid package that included funds for Ukraine, Taiwan and Israel.

“As I watched my colleagues, one by one, vote yes to send $14 billion (of the total) to the apartheid regime, to those committing genocide, the only thing I kept thinking about was that we, the United States, We are the main investor and financier of the genocide. “We are literally co-conspirators,” he stated.

However, Washington refuses to describe the more than 35 Palestinian deaths since October 7 as genocide and, in line with Israel, justifies these extermination operations as legitimate defense.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told the Senate Armed Services Committee last month that he has seen “no evidence that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.”

Tlaib was one of several elected officials who urged voters in Michigan to vote “no compromise” in the February presidential primary to protest the Biden administration's handling of Israel's war against the Palestinian Hamas movement in Gaza.

"Imagine: war crimes," the congresswoman said, describing doctors' reports of child deaths in the Gaza Strip. "President Biden, I hope you hear us loud and clear," she added.

The congresswoman also opposed Biden's statements following the decision of the International Criminal Court to order the arrest of Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and other officials in his cabinet so that they "be held accountable for these crimes against humanity."

The conference, attended by more than three thousand people, took place since Friday and its objective, according to the organizers, was "to serve as a space to evaluate, develop strategies and prepare for what is required of us in the next phase." of the figth".

EU demands ceasefire in Gaza and asks not to ignore the West Bank

On the other hand, the vice president of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, reiterated this Sunday in the city of Brussels the demand for the cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, and urged not to ignore the situation in the occupied West Bank.

The European Union (EU), the international community and all of us must do what we can to achieve an immediate ceasefire, the release of the hostages (held by Hamas) and the relief of the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza , he said in a joint press conference with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy affirmed that the scenario in the Strip surpasses any words to describe it and regretted that key border crossings for the entry of humanitarian aid and Israeli military operations in Rafah continue to be closed.

Israel has been attacking Gaza since October 7, resulting in at least 30 civilians losing their lives, thousands of them children, and the total destruction of that densely populated enclave, in retaliation for the lethal attack by Hamas.

Borrell highlighted the recent ruling of the International Court of Justice, which ordered Israel to stop its military actions in Rafah and facilitate access for humanitarian assistance.

He also instructed the Israeli government to facilitate UN investigations into the allegations of genocide, he added in the context of a ministerial meeting in this capital of donors in favor of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).

The high representative of the EU called not to forget what is happening in the West Bank, where the spiral of violence is intensifying, with an escalation of indiscriminate attacks by settlers against the Palestinian population.

“They are heavily armed (Israeli settlers) and the questions are: Who arms them? "And who does not prevent these attacks from taking place?" warned the vice president of the European Commission, who insisted that the colonization of the West Bank is contrary to International Law and must stop.

In his statements, Borrell advocated for a strong ANP, both politically and financially, for which he called on donors to increase their support for the Authority.

He considered that a functional ANP is also convenient for Israel, because to seek peace, we need it to be strong, not weak, he explained.
