Claudia Sheinbaum will expand social programs in Mexico

The president-elect indicated that she will send this initiative to the Ministry of the Interior next week

The elected president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reiterated her commitment to the well-being of the population and announced her intention to expand social programs when she takes office, giving special attention to young people and women.

In statements to the press, Sheinbaum spoke particularly about two constitutional reform initiatives, the first of which is about providing economic support to women between 60 and 64 years of age, in recognition of their work; the second, to grant a universal scholarship to basic level students in public schools, starting with secondary school students.

“With all the high school boys and girls, with the high school adolescents, that will be our start in 2025. In the case of women, it is for a million women,” he said.

Sheinbaum indicated that he will send this initiative to the Ministry of the Interior next week to be reviewed together with the current president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and then consider when to send it to the country's Congress, in order to advance the process and not having to wait until October 1, when the Executive Branch takes office, to begin the process.

The objective is that both programs can begin in 2025. “As I said in the campaign: they are not promises, they are commitments and the commitments are fulfilled,” he assured.

He also confirmed that he will govern for everyone and that he will fulfill the national project for which the majority of Mexicans voted.

“We carry in our hearts, in our minds and in our history, the principles of the movement: do not lie, do not steal and do not betray the people,” he said.
