Arce: The coup was to steal Bolivia's resources

President Arce thanked the Bolivian people for having been a fundamental protagonist in this process and preventing the coup from being carried out.

A week after the failed military coup d'état, President Luis Arce stated that behind these destabilizing actions are sectors interested in plundering Bolivia's natural resources.

In an interview with the Sputnik portal, Arce reflected on what has happened in recent days in the country and asked social organizations to remain “alert” to possible new attempts to overthrow the national government and the democratic system.

“I thank the countries that have shown solidarity with us in the face of the clearly failed coup d'état that we have experienced in our country,” for which so far there are more than twenty soldiers and civilians detained.

According to some statements before the court, General Juan José Zúñiga, líder of the rebels, he would have assured that he had the support of the Governments of the United States and the European Union.

According to the first investigations, Zúñiga's plan would have consisted of taking power to call elections within 90 days. For the President, what happened seven days ago shows that there are those who "can even destroy democracy to take over our natural resources and the Government."

Arce stated that the recent attack on his government shows them a way forward. “We don't have to fold our arms. Quite the opposite: you have to work. There are many projects that we have to continue. And we are going to continue doing it while we are in the Casa Grande del Pueblo.”

President Arce thanked the Bolivian people for having been a fundamental protagonist in this process and preventing the coup from being carried out.
