Two injured by lightning in the state of Mérida

The injured suffered second degree burns.

Two people were injured after being struck by an electric shock from lightning during a storm in the Pan American zone of the state of Mérida.

The injured were identified as Clerianys Villegas, 23 years old; and Jimmy Jiménez, 17 years old. Both had second-degree internal burns.

According to reports, the young people were in the yard of a house when lightning suddenly struck near them.

The impact also affected some homes in the area, which were subsequently inspected by officials from Mérida Civil Protection and the Fire Department of that entity.

The injured were helped by their neighbors and family, who took them to a healthcare center in the area from where they were referred to the emergency department of the Autonomous Institute Hospital Universitario de los Andes.

Suspected thief captured

In the state of Anzoátegui, a 45-year-old man was captured by state police officials due to his alleged participation in the theft of a bakery, located in the El Tejar sector of Píritu.

The detainee was identified as Luis Coraspe, who entered the business premises to commit his crime.
