Dog hero of the Vargas tragedy will have a statue

Ministry of Ecosocialism is preparing a sculpture of Orion, a Rottweiler who saved more than 37 people

In the collective imagination of many Venezuelans, the name of Orion remains, the rottweiler dog that saved more than 37 people during the Vargas landslide, today La Guaira state. This is why, to honor his work, almost 25 years after the feat, the Ministry of Ecosocialism is preparing a sculpture of the dog.

Through social networks, the holder of that portfolio, Josué Lorca, showed a video together with the author of the sculpture, Manuel Parada, which shows the figure of the animal.

“May the creation of this significant statue be a reminder that true nobility is not only found in humans, but also in animals who give everything to save others. May their courage and love inspire us to be better human beings and be willing to help those who need it,” the minister shared.

The history of Orión dates back to December 15, 1999, the date on which the trough occurred that claimed the lives of thousands of Guaireños.

According to witnesses, during the intense rainfall, the dog heard the screams of a girl who was drowning in the mud, whom he rescued from death. Then followed 36 other feats where he guided traumatized people back to life in the midst of disaster.
