Movistar recovers Lídice schools in Caracas

The spaces of the UED Enrique Chaumer and the Urquía preschool, located in Altos de Lídice, were restored

Movistar, through its social arm Fundación Telefónica Movistar, celebrated a new edition of the Telefónica International Volunteer Day. In Venezuela, the spaces of the UED Enrique Chaumer and the Urquía preschool, located in Altos de Lídice, in Caracas, were restored, and educational and social activities were carried out in 9 states of the country to benefit nearly 2.000 people.

Inés Sandra Machado, director of Corporate Affairs and Fundación Telefónica Movistar Venezuela, highlighted the extensive participation of volunteers and the praiseworthy work they carry out during the year, highlights the organization's press release.

“The Foundation's programs are leveraged by the spirit of solidarity of our collaborators, who make their talent available to the communities 365 days a year. This day is a celebration in tribute to that commitment, demonstrating the values ​​that have made our Telefónica Group great for 100 years: solidarity as a hallmark of identity. The invitation is to imagine together, to make a more inclusive, supportive and humane society possible for everyone.”

The Caracas activity involved more than 500 volunteers who were deployed to dedicate their work hours to the maintenance and restoration of the infrastructure, benefiting more than 750 students. Also, with the aim of promoting digital inclusion, they taught digital educational innovation classes through the ProFuturo program to 4th, 5th and 6th grade students, focused on programming and computational thinking.

The recovery of these educational spaces is an example of the positive impact that can be achieved through collaboration between the public and private sectors. Amaly Pérez, director of the UE Enrique Chaumer, thanked the company for the initiative and highlighted the importance of the day for the institution. “We are grateful to each of the Movistar volunteers, who today accompany us to recover our school. This school now has another face and has become another world. The doors are open to continue providing quality education to all our children.”

In other cities in the country, Telefónica Movistar volunteers also carried out various activities. In Maracay, they shared a special day with the boys and girls of SOS Children's Villages Venezuela, enjoying reading stories and recreational activities. Likewise, they offered training workshops to mothers and representatives to promote their own businesses, equipping them with basic communication, personal development, finance and marketing tools, in alliance with Young Entrepreneurs of Venezuela. In Barquisimeto, Maturín, Puerto Ordaz, Mérida, Barinas, Maracaibo and San Cristóbal, talks were given on the responsible use of technology in city schools.

The telecommunications company celebrated the Telefónica International Volunteer Day with the participation of 21.000 employees of the Telefónica Group in social activities simultaneously in 27 countries, with the focus of reducing the social and digital gap of different vulnerable groups. Furthermore, this year, the event is part of the company's Centennial.
