Maduro creates Ministry for the Elderly

He assured during the National Congress of grandparents that they will give priority to the recovery of shelters

President Nicolás Maduro participated in the closing of the National Congress of Grandparents, from where he assured that this event aims to stimulate conversation, debate, criticism, self-criticism of the most important and vital issues for this sector and assured that he will receive the proposals on this day and assured that he would make decisions “on the spot, because I am the direct head of the Great Grandfathers and Grandmothers of the Homeland Mission and I do not delegate this function,” he stated.

“I come from a dance therapy with some circles of grandparents from here in Caracas. Very good! because you have to keep your body active, alive, energetic, healthy, you have to stay in shape because we still have to fight great battles for our country and we have to win them,” he expressed upon his arrival at the Teresa Carreño Theater.

Maduro reported that there are already 14.952 structured grandparents' circles and assured that he continues to work on the creation of Grandparents' and Grandmothers' Houses in all states.

Maduro postulated the creation of a legal structure for the circles of grandfathers and grandmothers so that they can receive a direct economic contribution and that a communal spokesperson be appointed in the commons.

“All the battles that we are going to fight, we have to win them with energy, with love, with passion, with will,” said Maduro.

The grandparents requested to improve the care system for older adults, for which they propose strengthening the circles of grandparents in each community to prioritize and create data on needs to find solutions in social matters.

New ministry for the protection of grandparents

Dr. Joaquín Quintero Quintero Social Service Center

Through a television broadcast, the mayor of Caracas, from the Caricuao parish, showed the reopening of the Dr. Joaquín Quintero Quintero Social Service Center.

The center has a capacity of 120 beds to house grandparents who are in a state of vulnerability. In addition, it has recreational and healthcare areas, a dining room, a gym, a rehabilitation room and a dental service. Older adults also have the care of nursing staff, waitresses and laborers.

Likewise, the Minister of Health, Magalys Gutiérrez, pointed out that it has four floors and also a type III medical office for gynecology and obstetrics, dentistry and visual health. “It also has laboratory service, portable X-ray, all for the care of the grandparents who live here in the point and circle of the Caricuao parish,” she said. On the other hand, the minister stressed that the service has a cinema and beauty salon.

The service also has a security, food and nutrition camera system. The mayor of the Libertador municipality of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, said that in medical consultations, for which they have high-tech equipment, 160 people in different specialties can be treated daily.
