UCV University Council agreed to send a report to the Comptroller General of the Republic for alleged irregularities

The University Council of the Central University of Venezuela unanimously agreed to send to the Comptroller General of the Republic a report on the management of the Teaching Staff Retirement Fund, under the direction of former rector Cecilia García Arocha.

This was announced by account X of Viva la UCV, a news outlet from the Central University of Venezuela.

“By unanimous decision of the University Council of the #UCV, it was agreed to send to the Comptroller General of the Republic (@CGRVenezuela), the report on the management of the Teaching Staff Retirement Fund, under the direction of the former rector, @GarciaArochaC“says the publication dated May 22.

Since last year, the former rector of the UCV, Antonio París, has denounced the existence of “black accounts” in the management of García Arocha, who directed the university from May 2008 to July 2023.

En exclusive interview for Últimas Noticias, Paris denounced the existence of “black accounts” during García Arocha's mandate.

Then, he made specific reference to the UCV Retirement Fund.

In this regard, he said verbatim, “I have received communications from professors where they are asking that the board of directors of the UCV Retirement Fund be reappointed. This fund is nourished by what we teachers contribute. They decided to eliminate that fund during the management of Cecilia García and have it pass to the University Council. There are companies and multiple things there.”

Paris explained in this interview from July 2023 that the Fund continued to exist but not the resources with which it started, estimated at a figure greater than 25 million dollars.

He also said that overpricing was detected in the purchase of an imaging center for radiological examinations, with a resonator and tomography, whose cost does not match the payment for which it was purchased.

Last April, the former rector said he had evidence of irregularities in Arocha's management, among which stands out the payment of a commission of 175 thousand dollars whose recipient is unknown, according to Venezuela News, on April 2.

The investigation into the management of the university's Teaching Staff Retirement Fund arises in the midst of Cecilia García Arocha's pre-candidacy for mayor of Chacao.
