Milei threatens more layoffs of public employees

"We are going to end up kicking out 75.000 people, we already have 25.000," Milei threatened.

The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, said this Wednesday that his administration estimates fire to at least 75.000 state employees.

“In terms of contracts, we are going to end up laying off 75.000 people, we already have 25.000,” said the president during his speech at the Latam Economic Forum 2024, held in the Parque Norte complex, in Buenos Aires and organized by the consulting firm Research for Traders and Scitus Finances.

Milei highlighted that during his administration he halved the number of ministries, reducing “the entire structure of the State,” throwing out thousands of public workers with them.

He announced that he will continue with his plan to adjust the State's accounts and will veto any legislative modification that “wants to break the fiscal balance.”
