Loyo: Aquaculture sector reached 55% growth in 4 months

The sardine canning capacity rose to 70%.

With the purpose of strengthening alliances between the public and private sectors, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, presented this Saturday the progress of the fishing and aquaculture sector in the context of the work day called “The Productive Economy of Blue Venezuela.” .

The minister of fisheries and aquaculture, Juan Carlos Loyo, reported that in the first four months of the year, the aquaculture sector reached a growth of 55%, and the catch of sardines increased 72% in the first four months of 2024. The capacity to can sardines rose to 70%.

"That is to say, in these first four months we have seen growth in sardines, blue crabs, shrimp, coporo, which is part of this aquaculture revolution, tuna, curvina and a set of products that come from fisheries. the hand of fishermen and aquaculture,” said Loyo.

“It is necessary to emphasize that in the first four months of the year, the general fishing catch in the country has already grown by 6%, data that impacts the real economy, because we are putting the main emphasis on the real economy, in the new economic model that breaks with oil capitalist rentism, a new economic model that produces goods, services, wealth and that produces food for the people as we are achieving," said President Maduro.

Maduro also alluded to the contracts signed with China for the export of fish, an activity that has grown 2%. But he predicted that this is going to skyrocket to a level “that you can't even imagine.” Maduro recalled that currently 31 species of the sea are exported to 24 countries. 

“We have been able to put together a correct strategy and Venezuela has been recovering, what awaits us is economic greatness, prosperity with our own efforts, with independence and sovereignty without dragging ourselves or surrendering to any empire,” he said.

The activity was carried out in the Vistalmar CA Fishing Consortium, located in the El Guamache sectpr, Tubores municipality of the Nueva Esparta state, region and in charge of the process of reception, packaging, freezing and storage of fish production.

“It has been an exceptional year,” said the representative of the Vistalmar consortium, who commented that the octopus is in high demand in Croatia, Greece and Turkuye, commented the businessman.

Within the exportable offer are red snapper, cuarro, guanapo snapper, blond snapper, malacho, cachua perra, shrimp, squid, octopus, lobster, king kingfish and dorado, while for the national market they have sardine, picua, amberjack tuna , snook, tonquincha, yellow pompano, curvina, yellowfin tuna, cataco, lamparosa, smooth, painted cabin, margariteño corocoro, pepitona, cojinúa tuna, skate and dogfish.

Likewise, in the fresh part it has: dogfish, wahoo, trunk sardine, squid, pepitona, painted cabin, kingfish, red snapper, whole sardine, skate, smoothie, corocoro, cojinúa, muñama, catfish, cují, caitipa, caritico, cagalona , guanapo and tonquincha paro.

The Vistalmar CA Fishing Consortium is a private company formally established since 2016, which operates under a strategic alliance with the Venezuelan State represented by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, its companies and entities assigned to Margarita Island.

This alliance is based on promoting the fishing and aquaculture sector of the island region, advancing production to supply the national market and generating exports of this important sector, subscribed to the 18 engines of the Bolivarian Economic Agenda.

Currently, this company has three lines of work that demonstrate the effectiveness of its own operating model to supply the national market, such as: Tradition Lines with volume and low-cost products; Comfort Line to add value to the different cuts and vacuum packaging and Export to share with the world the final product made with the Venezuelan seal.
