The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, championed this Tuesday the delegation of Venezuelan athletes who will represent the country at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

From the Simón Bolívar Hall of the Miraflores Palace, the head of state presented the National tricolor to the Triple Jump athletes Yulimar Rojas and Julio Mayora in the Weightlifting discipline who will carry the Flag at the inauguration of the 2024 Olympic Games.

Likewise, the athletes Lisbeli Vera and Luis Rodríguez were flag bearers, who will carry the Patriotic tricolor at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

After being flagged, the national leader highlighted that it is the youth and the golden generation. “They carry this flag as our athlete Julio César León Aranguren carried it in 1948, as he has carried it with dignity in each Olympics.”

He highlighted that the flag-bearing athletes will be in charge of flying the eight-star tricolor Pavilion in Paris.

The Dignitary said that the Venezuelan delegation has a very great commitment, because it represents the most sublime and beautiful that our Country has. “They are the hope of an entire time, of an entire era (…) I solemnly and officially present to you the most beautiful thing I can give you, which is the flag of Venezuela,” he expressed.

Maduro recognized the contribution of the golden generation to national sports and highlighted that Venezuela's sporting glories are an inspiring example for boys and girls who dream of sports. “You are the vanguard of a sports movement that is growing in Venezuela,” she said.

He asserted that Venezuelan athletes are not alone. “You represent a lot, from the humility of who you are,” said President Maduro.

On the other hand, Maduro highlighted the colors of our country. “You defend the most sacred colors of the people of Our America, and I apologize to our heroic brothers of Our America, but Bolívar is one, and we are here to invoke his name and ask for his blessings for you.”

Likewise, he stressed that becoming a high-performance athlete is based on having a superior mentality to win and defeat the enemies of the mind. “You must always look for that point of balance, and this is created in permanent training, in identity with your country, in knowing that you defend the most sacred colors in all of America.”

Patriotic Commitment

For her part, Yulimar Rojas, athlete in the Triple Jump discipline, Outdoor world champion, three Indoor champions and Olympic gold medalist, expressed the honor and pleasure of wearing the National tricolor again in the Olympic Games. “It is a true commitment to receive the Flag and take it to Paris, to hate it gallantly and with honor in this long-awaited event for all.”

Rojas recognized the work of all the classified athletes and achieving the Olympic quota, while pointing out that at this stage of her career as an athlete she is destined to guide other athletes to conquer their dreams. “No matter how much there is adversity, no matter how much there is any circumstance in life, when you believe you can and when you have the faith and conviction to move forward we can achieve what we want,” he said.

He highlighted the commitment of the Venezuelan delegation who, in his opinion, is prepared to give everything to defend the colors of the Flag.

The Olympic Triple Jump medalist highlighted that despite her recovery process as a result of an injury, she took a break to be present in a different way, wearing the tricolor in style. “Thank you for honoring my work, for seeing me as an example and above all for letting me wear the tricolor in this competition. Flag that I have defended and given everything for it,” Rojas said.

Rojas thanked the president for his constant support for sports in our country. "Thank you, for all the support President, thank you for showing that sport can be a flag of peace, love and struggle, and that Venezuela is going to make history in these Olympic games."
