Alexis Cedres: “We beat the best team in the league”

The coach is committed to having a great year with Centauros de Portuguesa

The coach of Centauros de Portuguesa, Alexis Cedres, was happy and focused on the team's performance after beating Cocodrilos de Caracas 101-98 at the United Nations Park.

The team stood out on the court thanks to the performance of Isaac Thornton and Kelvin Peña, who took the offensive leadership to achieve the victory.

In statements offered for Líder In Sports, the strategist recognized that this victory allows the team to gain confidence considering that the Saurians are the best team in SPB today.

“Today we beat what is currently the best team in the league, they were coming off a streak of seven straight victories and we had just lost three, four games and that didn't make things easy mentally,” he said.

“This is a group that will continue to grow and we are not going to give up the rest of the season even though the start was not as expected. The group of players always remains positive to play different games,” he added.

He also considered that despite perhaps not having the same sporting level as other larger teams, this allows them to play with their rivals to be able to apply new strategies.

“We know that we are small on the field but that also gives us other opportunities and makes the teams uncomfortable. “The board is working on two new additions to improve the size,” he highlighted.

Finally, Alexis Cedres spoke about the importance of Kelvin Peña on the field, stating that he is one of the pillars of the team and leaving aside the criticism he has received due to his age.

“Kelvin is a player who, beyond his age, always works and day by day he is doing things that cannot be seen on the court and that is the same as making three and four triples, he is a great líder within the organization,” he concluded.
