High school students took over the World Poetry Festival

More than 200 national and international poets participate in the festival in tribute to the Barin poet Leonardo Gustavo Ruíz

“We are made of clay and notebooks, and teachers with their pencils and swords, in the battle of an exam, attack the paper of our bodies…” With those verses, corresponding to her text Colegio, Zulmary Barrios, a 14-year-old Valencian, had the responsibility of starting the 18th World Poetry Festival of Venezuela, in the crowded Manuelita Sáenz room of the Bolívar theater in Caracas, where her spontaneity and daring were applauded along with 8 other boys, representing the more than 3 thousand high school students from 200 educational institutions in the country that make up the Juan Calzadilla National Poetry School, one of the protagonists of this great festival of the word that will spread to Saturday.

It was an exciting moment, where fathers, mothers, representatives and trainers applauded and even cried when they felt the young and hopeful spirit that reigned in the theater, where the boys were received by the celebrated poet, Leonardo Gustavo Ruiz, who humbly thanked them for the distinction. : “I had never been honored for anything nor had I won lotteries,” he said.

Ana María Oviedo Palomares, national coordinator of the Poetry School, highlighted that the boys are the winners of the First Liceísta Reynaldo Pérez Só National Poetry Contest.

At the formal inauguration, also at the Bolívar theater after 5 in the afternoon, the guest poets: Diego Alonso Sánchez (Peru), Stefhany Rojas Wagner (Colombia), Lubi Prates (Brazil) and Luis Lorente (Cuba), put the accent international to the meeting, along with those from home, Juan Antonio Calzadilla Arreaza, Víctor Manuel Pinto, Edy Barboza, Venus Ledezma, Wilmer Ruperti, Isaías Medina López, Daniel Arella and Morela Maneiro (from Kariña nation).

In all the country

This Tuesday in Caracas and 20 states of the country they will experience poetry in their daily lives. From 10 to 12 am and from 2 to 4:30 pm, the poets will recite in the Red Room of the Andrés Bello National House of Letters.

At 11 am, Salvadoran Otoniel Guevara will be teaching the Creative Writing workshop for young people, in San Agustín del Sur.

At 10 am at the Celarg the exhibition The Other Pencil by Leonardo Ruiz will be inaugurated.

At 11 am, in said space there will be a recital by poets honored in previous editions.
