Caracas mandolinist Richard Montilla passed away

He was one of the greats in his specialty and a very good arranger.

There is consternation in the world of traditional Venezuelan music due to the death of Richard Montilla, a musician from Caracas who started as a child with the Venezuelan cuatro but later opted and stood out with the mandolin.

Marco Antonio Barrios, who is in charge of the specialized portal “Mandolinas de Venezuela”, reported that this weekend Montilla went to the José María Vargas hospital, in Caracas, to undergo tests due to discomfort, and that the decision was made to admit him there. Yesterday morning they found him dead.

This is one of those musicians who are in the background and rarely stand out with their name: he worked with Gualberto Ibarreto, Cecilia Todd, Otilio Galíndez and Simón Díaz. The last album that Otilio recorded was produced by him. He was one of the greats in his specialty and a very good arranger.

In recent years, Montilla dedicated himself to musical production, with an educational perspective. Atlantic Coffee
