Gloria and Emilio Estefan will tell their story on the big screen

The love story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan will be told in a new film from Sony Pictures, reported People en Español. The production will be based on the hit Broadway musical 'On Your Feet.'

According to the aforementioned media, the film will cover part of the life of the legendary Latin couple, from their beginnings to their rise to the top of the music industry. Gloria and Emilio Estefan, who will also be executive producers of the project, will share never-before-revealed details of their lives.

“We are already doing the casting. It is such a beautiful story, I think it represents the story of many people who come to the United States, who have to leave their family, who have been fighting,” said Emilio Estefan in an interview with the aforementioned site.

To date, the release date for “On Your Feet” has not been announced, which is already in the production stage.

"Absolutely nothing"

In the interview with People en Español, Emilio Estefan also recalled part of his journey in the industry, such as a moment decades ago when he arrived at a well-known record label and an executive criticized his last name and his Latin sound.

“He tells me that that sound was not going to work in the United States, that the tumbadora, the trumpet, had to be removed. What offended me the most is that he told me: 'you have to change your name, your last name.'” Given that, the Cuban musician highlighted that he responded that he would not change “absolutely anything.” I looked at him and said, “Whether you like it or not, this is what America is going to look like.”

Likewise, the renowned producer also spoke about the challenges that he and Gloria experienced as a couple, something that helped them strengthen themselves. “Gloria and I have been happy from the beginning. “Poverty taught us a lot to enjoy the pleasant moments in life,” he noted.

Your greatest prize

Regarding the family issue, Emilio Estefan assured that his greatest reward is the happiness of his loved ones. “For parents to see their children healthy and see that they love what they do is very important. I was a child who couldn't study music because he didn't have the money,” he recalled.

And he added: “They have been educated, Nayib as a director and film expert, and Emily was able to go to Berklee to study. How nice to be able to see that and enjoy. You always have to enjoy it as if it were the last day of your life.”

The executive producer also took the opportunity to talk about his grandson Sasha and how proud he is of him.

“He speaks four languages perfectly: Italian, because his mother is Italian; French, because the grandmother is French; in addition to English and Spanish. He is a great actor and sings incredible,” he noted.
