Meteorological stations are installed in communities of Maracay

The Director of Municipal Engineering highlighted that the objective is to improve monitoring and response times during the rainy season

As part of the risk management and prevention plan at the start of the rainy season, the mayor's office of the Girardot municipality is installing community weather stations for early warning in different sectors of the Aragüeña capital, in order to obtain more information. accurate information on rainfall levels.

This was reported by the director of municipal engineering, José Quijada, who highlighted that the objective is to improve monitoring and response times during this rainfall season, in joint work with Girardot Civil Protection personnel.

Likewise, he indicated that maintenance crews continue to clean rivers, dams and canals, paying special attention to vulnerable areas of Maracay, thanks to joint work with the national and regional governments.

“We have been doing advance cleaning and maintenance work with heavy machinery in the Rio Blanco sector at the confluences of the Caño Colorado, where a significant amount of sediment was removed,” commented the official.

Pumping stations 100% operational

Quijada commented that thanks to the efforts of the local government, the different pumping stations in the Los Cocos, La Esmeralda and Aguacatal sectors are 100% operational, thus minimizing the possibility of flooding in these communities.

Call of conscience

To avoid impacts due to the rains, Quijada made a call of conscience to citizens to avoid throwing waste into the different water channels of the municipality: “the accumulation of garbage clogs drains and bridges, causing water flows to overflow, the communities in the southern zone being affected to a greater extent,” he commented.
