Ophthalmological surgeries resume at the Razetti hospital in Barcelona

In the recovered area, 100 cases are resolved every week

The ophthalmology unit of the Luis Razetti hospital complex in Barcelona, ​​in the state of Anzoátegui, restarted cataract surgeries this Monday, June 17.

The information was released by Governor Luis José Marcano through social networks, where he details that "cataract operations are being carried out with the new equipment that we acquired."

Likewise, he commented that there are more than a thousand people on the waiting list, but “doctors are working to be able to treat about 100 weekly.”

In that area, patients with strabismus, amblyopia, strabismus and pterygium will also be treated, reported the director of the Anzoatiguense Health Institute (Saludanz), Dr. Roberto Rojas.

The also sole health authority in the state said that this service is completely free, and cataract surgery is guaranteed at the hands of 10 specialists, with the support of resident doctors, who do postgraduate ophthalmology at that health center.

Rojas indicated that 20 ophthalmological surgical interventions are being performed daily, “not only cataract or retinal problems, but also everything that has to do with the cornea” and the Phaco equipment allows the operations to be performed routinely.

The ophthalmology area is located on the ground floor of the university hospital and patients are received every day, although those from the Ven App database are prioritized, pending requests of 1×10.

This space was rehabilitated with air conditioning work in the minor and major operating room, lighting, painting, equipment, in addition to the acquisition and commissioning of a Phaco equipment.

The reactivation of this service is part of the recovery plan for the public health system of the regional government, with the support of the national government of President Nicolás Maduro.
