The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Sacha Llorenti, reiterated the importance of consolidating regional unity to overcome all obstacles, according to Prensa Latina.
"In the midst of the political and economic diversity, of models, we have to find links of common struggle for our interests," said the head of ALBA-TCP in an interview with the Situational Analysis program conducted by Oscar Schemel.
In this regard, Llorenti underlined the objective of strengthening the instances of true integration based on Latin American and Caribbean interests; "Transcending from mere integration to unity, that is the objective," he asserted.
He also warned about the attempts of the capitalist system to destroy any form of alliance or solidarity that opposes the interests of capital, while recalling the negative impact caused in terms of poverty in the countries of the region by the application of neoliberal policies.
"Neoliberalism generated a lot of poverty and despair in our peoples, (...) because it only seeks to steal our resources, cheap labor, appropriate our trade routes and become simple consumers," said the Bolivian diplomat.
Regarding the summit of heads of state and government held recently in Caracas, the executive secretary indicated that the ALBA-TCP focused its debates on the regional political situation, the conditions generated by the Covid-19 pandemic and the challenges to overcome it.
In this regard, he highlighted the joint efforts of the bloc in confronting the pandemic situation, including the creation of a humanitarian fund for the acquisition of vaccines and the exchange of good practices in health protocols.
During the high-level meeting held on June 24 in Caracas, the ALBA-TCP renewed its commitment to unity and cooperation in the face of threats to the stability of the region.
The high authorities of the bloc ratified the will of genuinely Latin American and Caribbean integration, which allows facing the claims of imperialist domination and the aggressions against sovereign states of the region.
In the health field, the countries of the group reaffirmed the need for urgent universal immunization against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus disease, as well as ensuring an urgent, equitable, supportive, and affordable distribution of vaccines, supplies and equipment.
The organization agreed to promote the development of the ALBA-Petro Caribe complementary economic zone as a model of productive and technological development, based on the values of the Alliance and the principles of the Peoples' Trade Agreement.
