Brazilian movements marched in defense of democracy

In the act for the defense of democracy, a letter was read, which is already signed by 878.000 people

Movements and social organizations in Brazil mobilized this Thursday in more than 49 cities in the country, including Brasilia; in defense of democracy and free elections, ahead of the elections that will take place next October.

According to TeleSur, activities were promoted in the campaign Fora Bolsonaro, and were developed in 86 acts, deployed in the country.

The mobilizations take place amid criticism from the current president, Jair Bolsonaro, against the electoral system and the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.

During the demonstration, the movements read a letter entitled "Letter to Brazilian men and women in defense of the Democratic State of Law."

The letter, which can be signed by any citizen, is part of a campaign that also involves the virtual environment and was prepared by a group of former students of the University of Sao Paulo.

According to Telesur, the letter had 878.000 signatures, including those of eight presidential candidates: Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula), Ciro Gomes, Simone Tebet, Felipe D'Ávila, Soraya Thronicke, Sofia Manzano, Leonardo Péricles and Eymael.

Bolsonaro ridicules demonstration in favor of democracy

For his part, President Jair Bolsonaro ridiculed the reading of the manifesto in defense of democracy on his account on the social network Twitter.

"Today a very important act took place in defense of Brazil and of great relevance to the Brazilian people: Petrobras reduced, once again, the price of diesel," Bolsonaro stressed on the social network.

In his account, he also mentioned other points regarding fuel.

The Minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, continued with the irony on social networks, focused on the country's economy.

«Letter to the Brazilian people: we are writing the letter that changes Brazil for the better; cheaper fuel, lower diesel price, deflation, increased employment, strong economy, strong democracy; Congratulations, Democrat Jair Bolsonaro », he wrote.

According to SputinikIn recent days, the president had already criticized the manifesto, which was signed by all the pre-candidates for the presidency except him, in addition to dozens of former ministers, former judges of the Federal Supreme Court, businessmen, bankers, trade unionists, politicians of various ideologies, activists, among others.
