Spanish MEP Manu Pineda denounced the harassment, verbal violence and harassment at the Cuban Consulate in Barcelona, and announced that he will take action, Prensa Latina reported yesterday.
Through a press conference in the Catalan capital, Pineda announced negotiations with the Department of Interior of the Generalitat de Catalunya to take action on the matter.
Accompanied by the documentary filmmaker Ana Hurtado, Pineda warned that, if the situation continues, he will take the case to the European Union (EU).
The legislator, who is part of the Left Group of the European Parliament, condemned the harassment and aggression that, for nine months, has occurred against Cuban diplomats in the Catalan capital, which only finds passivity in the authorities.
He explained that by not protecting the mission of the Caribbean country, Spain violates the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.
The MEP who is also a member of the United We Can bloc, an organization that together with the Spanish Socialist Workers Party forms the coalition of the Spanish Government; chaired by Pedro Sánchez, denounced, together with members of the Communist Party of Spain, what he called “a campaign that the right-wing, which here (in the Iberian country) could be represented by Cs (Citizens Party), PP (Popular Party) and Vox "To promote" that the political dialogue and cooperation agreement between the EU and Cuba be broken, canceled and suspended, "he said.
