Lula announces millionaire investment for university works in Brazil

President Lula reiterated his commitment to guarantee that the Brazilian population has the conditions to access universities

The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, announced that some $25 million will be allocated, through the Ministry of Education, for the improvement of university infrastructure and the creation of new campuses.

This investment is intended for the “consolidation and expansion of universities and federal university hospitals,” according to the Ministry of Education, and is part of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).

The announcement was made during a meeting held on Monday between the president and rectors of universities and federal institutes at the Planalto Palace (seat of Government).

The investment is expected to cover the creation of ten new campuses in the five regions of the country, which will benefit 28 thousand new students; improvements in the infrastructure of some 69 federal study centers and 31 university hospitals.

In addition, scholarships will be reinforced, the range of vocational training institutes will be expanded and there will be an increase in the budget of these institutions.

“The elites of this country have never been committed to education because their children have always studied abroad. This task of a government concerned about placing indigenous people, quilombolas, public school students and the poor in university was not common in this country,” said the Brazilian president on his account on the social network X.
