Julian Assange is released after reaching an agreement with the US

He pleaded guilty to violating the Espionage Law, however, due to the time he has spent in prison, his sentence is considered served.

The founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, was released from a London prison this Monday, after more than five years of being held, agencies report.

After reaching a plea agreement with the authorities, he will not be extradited to the United States, and his sentence is considered served for the time he spent in prison.

It emerged that Assange agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to obtain and disclose US national defense information.

The agreement allowed him to be released and return to his native Australia. He was released at Stanstead Airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK.

Assange had been imprisoned in the United Kingdom for 5 years, from where he was fighting to avoid his extradition to the United States, whose Justice required him due to the massive leak in 2010 by WikiLeaks of confidential government documents.

WikiLeaks published stories about government corruption and human rights abuses, holding the powerful accountable for their actions.
