China launches new Earth observation satellite

China launched a new Earth observation satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern China at 06:45 am on Wednesday (Beijing time).

The satellite, Gaofen-12 02, was launched aboard a Long March-4C carrier rocket and successfully entered its planned orbit.

The satellite will be used mainly for topographic studies, urban planning, road works design, crop estimation and relief operations.

The launch was the 364th mission of the Long March series carrier rockets. / Xinhua.
