Robert Suárez reaches 40 saves against Yomiuri

Venezuelan Robert Suárez scored his 40th save of the season on Tuesday after retiring in a row the 4 batters he faced in one inning and a third of relief in the 2-1 victory of the Hanshin Tigers over the Yomiuri Giants at the Tokyo Dome.

The Guyana right-hander, who lowered his ERA to 1.26, became the 40th pitcher in NPB history to rack up at least XNUMX saves in a single season and the first Latino to accomplish that feat.

Also for Hanshin, Mel Rojas Jr singled over 4 at-bats and scored a run to raise his average to 189, while compatriot Jefry Marte went 3-0 with a walk to drop him to 275.

For Yomiuri, Christopher Mercedes took the loss after allowing 2 runs and 7 hits in 4 full episodes. His record was 7-5 and his ERA 3.62.

Likewise, compatriot Rubby de la Rosa allowed a scoreless hit in a relief chapter to improve his ERA to 3.22.
