Rómulo Otero tested positive for coronavirus and will be out in Corinthians' next four games in the Brazilian Championship, club coach Vagner Mancini reported on Tuesday.
Otero, 28, has no symptoms of the disease and is in detention. He will not be able to be in Corinthians' commitments against Fluminense, Palmeiras, Sport and Bragantino.
“We regret his absence on the playing field, he is a footballer who has fit into the game system. A dominant footballer in his sector, with a powerful kick, but it is the opportunity for another to enter, ”said Mancini.
Otero, who played in the 2014 and 2018 qualifiers, as well as the 2016 Copa América, arrived at Corinthians in 2020 together with the Ecuadorian Juan Cazares, both from Atlético Mineiro.
After confirming the positive of Otero, the coach of the São Paulo club warned that the "pandemic is not over yet" and "that much can happen" in the remainder of the season.
He also recalled that other club footballers, such as Mateus Vital Jô, Jemerson and Cafú, were already infected with the coronavirus in the last months, a disease that already leaves 8,1 million cases and 203.500 deaths in the country.
With 39 points, the Corinthians are tenth in the classification of the Brazilian league and still aspires to get a place in the next edition of the Copa Libertadores.
